Welcome to my travelblog!
My name is Karen Evers, known as Kary. For the ones that don't know me. I'm originally from Curacao and came to Holland for my studies. Since last year I developed this intrest for travelling, since then I started my journey towards exploring the world.
From now on my trips are going to be a little bit different than before. I'm more driven by cultures, people, I want to feel and experience the everyday life, the real thing. So don't forget to check out my blogs and feel free to leave comments or ask questions......

Curacao O' Beautiful Island
From Netherlands Antilles on January 5, 2008Curacao O beautiful Curacao. My place of birth.
I have been going to this Island for two years in a row. Celebrating Christmas and New Year with my dear family and friends. And also for weddings, somehow all of my friends are getting married. So I probably have to go this year again. But I love it.
Curacao lies a few miles from the coast of Venezuela surrounded by beautiful sea and other Islands in the Caribbean...
When I arrived on december 25th of 2006 it was a whole new experience cause it was the first time I went back to Curacao after living in Holland for four years. I didn't know what to expect and I was a little bit concerned about my safety bacause of all the stories I heard when I was in Holland. As soon as I arrived I was so happy to see my family and friends, I haven't seen them in years. As we drove through the streets of Curacao I felt like home again and my unsafe feeling disappeared.
While I was there, I did a lot of touristic things. Such as going to the Hato Caves where the escaped slaves used to hide and live for months at a time. Even before the arrival of Europeans and slaves, the Amerindian Arawaks used them for shelter, and left behind cave drawings, or petroglyphs, estimated at 1,500 years old.
Curacao Sea Quarium. I've been there a couple a times. The dolphin show is awesome. So whenever you go don't forget to visit the Sea Quarium, besides that you can feed sharks and see a lot of other underwaterworld creatures..haha. There is nothing nicer to enjoy Sea quarium while feeling the hot sun burning on your skin and tasting the salt of the ocean.
The Ostrich Farm and Aloe Farm is also a must experience. Cute little ostriches and eggs that can bear more than 1000 kilos in a horizontal position. I must say this is very impressive. I can't believe I was standing on one and It didn't break.
Besides all these attractions Curacao has the tastiest dishes. I went to Plaza to eat 'piska kora and funchi' This is like red snapper, with a corn dish kind of thing. Delicious!! Plaza itself doesn't look that hygienic but it's worth visiting.
Last but not least, Curacao's beaches. I agree they are the best-kept secret. I arrived on 25december at 5 o' clock PM , 26 th in the morning I was celebrating Christmas on the beach. Must love those beaches. My favorite one is Porto Marie. The water is so clear, you can see everything!!
I saw the beauty in things that weren't really beautiful, but those were the things that made me feel home again. I believe that the beauty of the Island lies in the imperfectness of it. That's what makes it 'mi dushi korsou'.
