Weekend in Cancun!! Elections=no alcohol/SUPERBOWL SUNDAY

Mexico From Mexico More from Mexico on March 24, 2008

This weekend in cancun was the hottest weekend. There was superbowl sunday, elections and there was CHICHEN ITZAAAA!!

David took us for a trip downtown Cancun where the locals live. It was nice to see something else besides the hotel zone. We ate in a typical mexican restaurant with a nice view on Isla Mujeres. I ordered aros negro. Black rice with seafood, really black!

At night we went to AZUCAR with Marjo, Guillermo and Jonathan. It was a latin club, so Marye brought her dancing shoes. A night of sweat and salsa! Guillermo teaches salsa in Cancun and Jonathan is a professional dancer who just won the Mexican Championship. And I practise salsa every now and than. So we had enough to make it a great night. Which we did.

There was this English guy who really liked the way Marye and Guillermo danced. He spontaneously bought us this bottle of Champagne costing aproximately 500 us dollar each. We were totally shocked but it did not keep us from enjoying this bottle of fine tasting champagne. He joined us for the night and bought us another bottle. Marye went back to the apartment early. I stayed with Marjo and the crew for another hour or two. Dancing cumbia, merengue and singing my favourite bachata songs together with Jonathan. The  ''GODFATHER'' brought us back to Villas Marlin.

Chichen Itzaaa. We went to Chichen Itza by bus. Chichen Itza is a major regional focal point in the northern Maya lowlands from the late classics through theterminal classics and into the early portion of the early postclassics period. It a huge steppyramid. This pyramid has a ground plan of square terraces with stairways up each of the 4 sides to the temple on top. On the spring and fall equinox, at the rising and setting of the sun, the corner of the structure casts a shadow in the shape of a plumed serpent - Kukulcan, or Quetzalcoatl - along the side of the North staircase. On these two days, the shadows from the corner tiers slither down the northern side of the pyramid with the sun's movement.

This is a really must see! Did you know that the mayan discoverd the number zero. A lot of their theory really makes sence. They believe the end of the world would come in 2022. So my advice...Enjoy life like I do!!
